APPLE’S NEW MOBILE OPERATING SYSTEM – iOS 9
Have you got an Apple Mobile Device? Well, then get ready as Apple’s latest mobile software iOS 9 is here and the good news is that it has been designed in such a way that it works better on the older devices. If you already have iOS 8 on your device you can update to iOS 9 to gain the improved changes.
Let’s look at what devices user can upgrade the new iOS 9 to and some new features.
iPads - Any iPad Minis or iPad 2 or later.
iPhones - 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6 and the latest 6S and 6S Plus which will be on sale end of the month.
iPod Touch - 5th and 6th generations.
The new iOS 9 comes with some new features such as; New Fonts, Low Power Saving Mode, Lowercase Keyboard, Selfies and Screenshot Folders, Back to App Button with App Switching Option, General Space Saving Option and an Improvement on Siri, its digital assistant.
Apple has slightly improved the fonts for better readability on small screen.
Low Power Mode:
This feature saves battery life but at the cost of performance. But hey, it’s all about compromise.
When you are in lowercase mode, display will be in of course lowercase letters. No need to tap the shift button to work out which mode you are in.
Selfies and Screenshots:
Apple has introduced a smart folder for your selfies and screenshots. What it means is that if you want to find something you have screenshot few weeks ago, it can be done in seconds, and you still have the big one folder for all your photos.
When you open a link on e.g. Facebook in safari, and want to go back to comment, or one app opens with another app but cannot find the original page? With iOS 9 you have a status bar reminder/button, so you can get back from wherever you are.
New App Switcher:
When you double press the home button, you get to the app screen so you can switch between them. It’s like the Alt-tab option on Windows 7.
General Space Saving / Intelligence:
iOS 9 only requires 1.3gb of space to download compared to previous iOS 8 which required 4.58gb. It is quite substantial saving for someone having a 16gb iPhone. It has now a new updated Siri, making it more smarter personal digital assistant.
However, the questions everyone has on their mind is when should one update? What time is the best time? Do I really need to do it? How do I prepare my device for the update? Is it going to take more space on my device? How easy is it really going to be? Well, you are not alone. We all have similar concerns and excitement.
Don’t worry. The best thing to do is to talk with the team at McDonalds -IT and get some feedback and suggestions. Get in touch now and we can even upgrade it for you. If you decide to upgrade yourself please ensure at a minimum that you backup your device first and have it plugged into the power. Good luck.
